At Lakeside Regenerrative Clinic, anti-ageing care focuses on maintaining healthy skin, addressing visible signs of ageing, and supporting the skin’s natural regenerative processes. Our approach is based on a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s skin condition, concerns, medical history, and individual treatment needs.

Ageing is a natural process associated with gradual reductions in collagen and elastin production, skin hydration, cellular turnover, and tissue elasticity. Cumulative sun exposure and oxidative stress can further contribute to wrinkles, pigmentation, uneven texture, and loss of firmness.

1. Principle

The fundamental principle of anti-ageing treatment is to protect the skin from further damage, improve skin quality, and address age-related changes through appropriate dermatological and aesthetic interventions.

Key principles include:

  • Protection against ultraviolet (UV) radiation and photoageing
  • Supporting collagen and elastin production
  • Improving skin hydration and barrier function
  • Promoting healthy epidermal turnover
  • Reducing oxidative stress
  • Addressing fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, uneven texture, and skin laxity

At Lakeside Regenerrative Clinic, treatment is individualised according to the patient's skin condition and specific concerns. Depending on the clinical assessment, treatment may include topical therapies, injectable treatments, energy-based procedures, or regenerative approaches.

2. Mechanism

Anti-ageing treatments work through different biological mechanisms depending on the treatment selected.

Topical retinoids promote epidermal turnover and support dermal remodelling, helping improve fine lines, pigmentation, and skin texture. Sunscreens help protect the skin from UV-induced damage and photoageing, while appropriate antioxidant therapies may help reduce oxidative stress.

Procedures such as microneedling, laser-based treatments, and radiofrequency provide controlled stimulation to the skin. This activates the body's natural healing response and fibroblast activity, supporting collagen production and remodelling.

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces excessive muscle activity at the neuromuscular junction, helping soften dynamic facial lines. Dermal fillers, including hyaluronic acid-based fillers, may be used when appropriate to restore lost volume and improve facial contours.

Overall approach:

Protection → Skin renewal → Collagen stimulation → Tissue remodelling → Improved skin quality

3. Indications

Anti-ageing treatment may be considered for patients experiencing age-related, environmental, or photo-induced changes in the skin.

Common indications include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Photoageing and sun-induced skin changes
  • Uneven pigmentation and skin tone
  • Reduced skin firmness and elasticity
  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Rough or uneven skin texture
  • Dull complexion
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines
  • Crow's feet
  • Loss of facial volume
  • Early signs of facial ageing

The appropriate treatment is selected according to the underlying cause and the patient's individual concerns. Where appropriate, a combination of treatments may be considered to address multiple aspects of skin ageing.

4. Contraindications & Precautions

The safety and suitability of anti-ageing treatment are assessed individually. Contraindications vary according to the specific medication, injectable treatment, or procedure being considered.

Treatment may need to be postponed or modified in the presence of:

  • Active bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections
  • Open wounds or significantly compromised skin
  • Active inflammatory skin conditions at the treatment site
  • Severe sunburn or recent excessive sun exposure
  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to the proposed treatment
  • Certain bleeding or wound-healing disorders
  • A history of significant keloid or abnormal scar formation for selected procedures

Additional precautions may be required for patients who are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding, depending on the treatment
  • Taking photosensitising medications
  • Taking medications that affect bleeding or wound healing
  • Recovering from a recent cosmetic or dermatological procedure
  • Immunocompromised
  • Prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
